The Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the governing body of Lycée Jules Verne (Non-Profit Company). Its role is to provide the school with the human, material, and financial resources needed to function smoothly. The Board works closely with the Head of School and the School Council, respecting their respective responsibilities, to help manage and oversee the school.
The Board of Directors is made up of nine volunteer parents representatives ( from Johannesburg and Pretoria) elected at the end-of-year parent information meeting (May-June). Each board member serves a two-year term, renewable twice consecutively.
Structure and Functioning
The Board has an executive committee consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, elected from among the board members at the first meeting following their election. Board members also work in committees to provide advice and recommendations on technical or operational matters.
The full Board of Directors meets once a month with representatives of the school administration (Principal, Primary School Director, Finance and administration manager) and three elected staff representatives (Administration, Primary, Secondary) to review investment projects, monitor ongoing work, and oversee the school’s finances.
The Board is accountable to parents and provides updates at least twice a year on decisions made.
As with administration and staff representatives, the Cultural Attaché to the French Embassy is an ex officio member of the Board of Directors, with a consultative voice.

Key responsibilities
As the Board of Directors is responsible for all actions that ensure the existence, security, and continued smooth operation of the school, its main responsibilities include:
- Hiring and managing locally recruited teachers and staff
- Preparing the annual financial budget
- Overseeing investment projects
- Controlling expenses
