High School

An excellent education that prepares each student to succeed in the French baccalaureate and pursue higher education anywhere in the world.
At Lycée Jules Verne, our High school (seconde to terminale) provides students with strong academic foundation, preparing them for the French Baccalaureate and opening doors to top universities in France, South Africa and around the world.

We offer two pathways: the General Section and the American International Section.

Grade 10 (Seconde): Strengthening skills and exploring interests

Seconde is a transition year that allows students to consolidate the knowledge acquired in Middle School and begin shaping their future academic pathway.

All students follow the core curriculum, which includes subjects such as Digital & Technology Sciences and Economic & Social Sciences.

They may also choose an optional subject: Sports (EPS) or Model United Nations (MUN)

Students in the American International Section benefit from an additional 6 hours of English each week, including American History–Geography and American Literature. This enhanced programme prepares them to enter the BFI (International French Baccalaureate) from Grade 11.

Grade 11 (Première): Deepening knowledge and choosing specialisations

In Première, students continue to build strong general knowledge through the core subjects (History–Geography, French, Scientific Studies, Languages, and Physical Education) while choosing three specialisation subjects from the eight offered.

Optional subjects (EPS or MUN) can be added to further personalise their journey.
In the American International Section (BFI track), students receive additional reinforcement in English and Spanish through specialised courses such as:

• Advanced English
• Global studies in English
• Cultural and linguistic enrichment
• Bilingual history and geography (French/English)

Important: Grade 11 (Premiere) is the last year in which students may join the BFI track.

Grade 12 (Terminale): Finishing strong and preparing for the future

In their final year, students continue to strengthen their academic profile. Philosophy becomes part of the core curriculum, replacing French from the previous year.

Students keep two of their three specialization subjects chosen in Grade 11. They may also choose optional subjects such as: EPS, MUN, DGEMC (Law and Contemporary Global Issues), as well as Complementary Mathematics or Advanced Mathematics, depending on their higher education goals.

Students in the American International Section continue their bilingual/trilingual program with intensive modern language courses and sit for the International French Baccalaureate (BFI).
